2020 marks 20 years of the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) working as your “Voice at the IRS”, helping taxpayers solve problems and protecting taxpayers’ rights.  

The Restructuring and Reform Act of 1998 (RRA ‘98) established the Taxpayer Advocate Service. On March 12, 2000, the Taxpayer Advocate Service was established as an independent organization within the Internal Revenue Service. As Acting National Taxpayer Advocate Bridget T. Roberts states: “Making a difference in the lives of taxpayers and ensuring their rights are protected are foundational to all TAS has done and continues to do today”.
